My career runs from a clerical post in a district co-operative in 1996 to leading architecture for externally facing cloud products at Dell Technologies. The path was built almost entirely through part-time and distance study taken alongside full-time work — every qualification after my first degree was earned while employed.
The technical foundation is deliberately broad: concurrent certified administrator credentials across Red Hat, IBM AIX, HP-UX and SUSE, earned while running mixed production estates. On top of that sits a cloud and virtualization stack built continuously since 2012 — HP Cloud Architect, VMware, IBM Cloud Solution Architect, and Microsoft from Azure Infrastructure through to Azure Security Engineer. My scope is the five pillars of infrastructure: compute, network, storage, security and backup/restore, across public, private and hybrid.
What I care about most is data. It is the one asset every business genuinely depends on — no organisation runs without it. Everything else in the stack exists to serve it, which is the principle I design to:

That principle is what makes availability an architectural concern rather than an operational one. Two of my granted USPTO patents address system failure and disaster recovery, and the same thinking produced a DR redesign that cut recovery from six hours to forty-five minutes. Alongside practice I hold a doctorate in data centre power efficiency, have published six peer-reviewed papers, sit on an international editorial board and review for IEEE conferences.
